Hello writer! Here is my finally completed letter! I have requested some of these fandoms before and so in order to not be redundant, I have links to previous letters with guides for which to look at depending on your interest. I also have updates for two previous fandoms, PLUS a full listing for my one new fandom this year. Please let me know via the mods if you find this confusing or need more guidance.
I am extremely open to treats! This includes fanart treats. Please stick to the fandoms requested for this year for both the main assignment and treats; note that my previous letters include some that I haven't requested this time around.
My requested fandoms from 2026, from my AO3 signup, are: A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia (1990 TV movie), The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue series (historical fantasy book series by Mackenzi Lee), The Gilded Age (currently running US period TV series), Legend of Galactic Heroes / Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (1980s-1990s anime series), Murdoch Mysteries (currently running Canadian period mystery TV series), and The Wire (2000s US TV crime series).
Please don't take anything here to suggest I'm more or less excited by any of the listed fandoms than others! I am equally interested in and excited for all of them, and very eager to see what you come up with no matter which fandoms or characters you choose!
Previous Yuletide letters:
2025 (first year requesting The Gilded Age and Gentleman's Guide, additional details about previous fandoms)
2024 (includes most up-to-date general details about what I like and dislike, including specific important details about dubcon and other fraught topics)
2023 (first year requesting A Dangerous Man, The Wire and LOGH)
Please use the 2024 letter, along with the sign-up, for general details about what I like and dislike. There are also some important feelings about how I feel about broader questions like dubcon (in terms of my rape/non-con DNW), my standards for historical accuracy with historical fandoms, and so on.
All but one of my fandoms (Murdoch Mysteries) are included in those previous signups. Here are some additional details on characters that I did not include in the previous sign-ups (other fandoms are the same as previous letters) -
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue Series - Mackenzi Lee
Building on 2025 letter, but in addition: Since I didn't request Johanna this time, I'm a little less expecting a fic featuring Simmaa to have her as a love interest. But I would say that exploring Sim's interest in women is my biggest interest here; I just always wanted more of her from the books. More Monty/Percy, fluff or smut or anything else (as long as it doesn't have a tragic ending), would be another big interest of mine. With Felicity - just anything that expands her story beyond the books. what she did between books 2 and 3, where her life goes from there, what her relationships with any of the previous characters looks like.
The Gilded Age (TV 2022)
Building on 2025 letter, but in addition: I didn't request Larry this time, so even though I like Larian/Larrian, I don't expect you to write that ship. My big requests this time are Peggy/Marian, Peggy/Kirkland, Peggy&Marian platonic relationships that navigate who they are to each other going forward from where the show left off with the latest season, and anything exploring Oscar's sexuality further and his relationships with men outside of John Adams (if you can't tell, I'm really into further exploring queer characters especially queer historical characters!)
New fandoms below!
Murdoch Mysteries
Canon is a now 20-season Canadian period mystery live-action TV series, focusing on Detective William Murdoch of Station House No. 4 in Toronto at the turn of the 20th century, as he solves mysteries (usually murder myseteries), and his various associates. Requested characters are Julia Ogden, George Crabtree, Emily Grace and Lillian Moss. Requester has watched the first 10 seasons or so. It is worth noting the novel series by Maureen Jennings is significantly different, so please base your fic on the TV series.
I find this show and its wide cast of characters a lot of fun; if I had been able to request more than four characters I would have! (Particularly my neurodivergent king Detective Murdoch himself.) But I went with four "favorites" / characters I would most like to see more from than the show gave me. I love its diverse exploration of the various different corners and ways of living in late 19th / early 20th century Toronto.
Emily/Lillian - We only got a little bit of their romance on the show before Lillian was killed off, and Emily written off the show. I'd love to see you go further with this: how did Emily come to realize her feelings for Lillian and how did she come to accept her bisexuality/lesbianism (I'm fine with either read of her, though I tend to read her as bi personally) in a time period when that was so socially unacceptable even for progressive people? What opened her up to those feelings? How does Lillian feel about Emily especially in contrast to her previous relationships with women? You an also just go for smut or fluff between them, just more than we got on the show. You can also explore where Emily goes forward, in her move to London, after Lillian's death - as long as the fic doesn't focus overmuch on the death, I'm also fine with canon-compliant futurefic, as long as Emily continues to be into and explore her interest in women. I would also love a version of things where Lillian doesn't die and they either stay in Toronto or move to London together! Additionally, I haven't seen much of the episodes with Llewellyn Watts yet, but I'd love to see in a fix-it situation, or a future Emily situation (where she comes back to Toronto), either of these women's interactions with another gay character - particularly where they know, somehow, or figure out, what each other are.
Julia - I just find her such a fascinating character, this really progressive, forward-thinking woman for that time. I love Julia/Murdoch together but since the show gives us a lot of that, I'd love if you focused on her to do some more introspection or to show her earlier life before she joins Station House No. 4 or meets Murdoch. I would prefer in this case it build somewhat on what we've seen of her pre-canon life on the show, but you can extrapolate past there however you want as long as it makes sense for her character.
George - George Crabtree is just such a fun character, I love his awkwardness and bumbling nature mixed with his intelligence and capability, and seeing how he does or doesn't rub up against people. I also find his upbringing really fascinating - being raised in a brothel in Newfoundland with all the sex workers as his aunts? The show depicts a little bit of this, but if you focus on George I'd love to see more and how this shapes him as a person. Or other ideas of his life before joining Station House No. 4.
In terms of DNWs go based on the signup - other than I'm not sure if I put that in there for this fandom, but I do want to note to please make sure not to be too historically inaccurate here especially with the queer characters. I don't expect exhausting research, but just not to have them talk like a later 20th or 21st century queer person (including probably using "queer" to describe themselves, or being overly focused on identity labels beyond the ones we hear on the show like "sapphist") and instead act more like queer people from their time and place.
Thanks so much for writing for me, sorry assignments went out before this was fully constructed (but hope you get to see it in time!) and I can't wait to see what you come up with in December!
